Glover Park Village will do our very best to support you through this crisis by providing you up-to-date information and practical tips. We will continue to assist with errands, resources and referrals, and other necessities. We have two pools of volunteers to draw from—our own plus a group of Glover Park residents who have volunteered to assist. Thanks to Maggie Simpson for organizing this effort!

If you would like, we can ask volunteers to check in with you regularly by phone or email to see if you’re alright or need anything with which we might help.

For the safety of yourselves and our volunteers, for the next several weeks, we cannot ask volunteers to enter your home, nor can we drive you to medical appointments if you become ill.

If you become or suspect you have become ill with COVID-19, please call your doctor to learn what you should do. At the present time, they have the sole authority to order a test for COVID-19. Make sure you call the doctor’s office first before arranging to go in.

By clicking here, you can find some practical information about the virus, what you can do to protect yourself and others and a lot more. Since things do change on a daily basis, we will endeavor to keep this information up-to-date. Please share this information with some of your neighbors who may not have an internet connection.

A small group of neighbors and volunteers has been working hard since 2010 to create a neighborhood in greater Glover Park where intergenerational connections flourish, neighbors help neighbors, and no one is forced to move prematurely because of disability or frailty. Building on models from around the country, we call our effort Glover Park Village (GPV). We accomplish our goals by:

• Building on existing neighborliness, connecting those with the ability to give

  with those in need of help;

• Providing residents of all ages opportunities to give back to the community,

  volunteer their time and skills, and make enduring connections;

• Providing both information and connections to the myriad services available in
  Washington, D.C.;

• Providing opportunities for persons of all ages to socialize easily within Glover

  Park; and

• Fostering a livable and age-friendly community.

Be part of making this wonderful vision a reality!
